Answers to common questions about our evaluation and support services.
AZSPI provides comprehensive neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations, gifted testing, parent support, and in-person educational advocacy services. Our team includes licensed Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists who work collaboratively to assess each individual's unique strengths and needs. We serve children, adolescents, and adults at our Phoenix and Tucson locations.
A neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of an individual's cognitive, academic, communication, sensory, and social-emotional functioning. Evaluations are conducted by licensed psychologists and typically take 1–4 hours. The results help identify areas of strength and need, inform diagnoses, and guide the development of individualized support plans for school, therapy, or daily life.
Our evaluations can assess for a wide range of conditions including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, learning disabilities, dyslexia, language disorders, intellectual disabilities, anxiety, and other cognitive or developmental concerns. We also provide gifted evaluations for children who may qualify for advanced academic programs. A free 30-minute consultation with Dr. Smith or Dr. Miller can help determine the most appropriate evaluation for your situation.
Gifted testing measures a child's intellectual abilities, reasoning, and potential across various domains to identify exceptional talents or advanced cognitive abilities. It's typically recommended when a child demonstrates advanced academic performance, curiosity, or abilities beyond their age level, or when a parent or teacher suspects a child may qualify for a gifted education program. Results can support school placement decisions and help families better understand their child's learning needs.
AZSPI accepts most major insurance plans. We also accept ESA (Empowerment Scholarship Account) and HSA (Health Savings Account) funds. Please contact our office directly to verify that we accept your specific insurance and to learn more about billing and payment options. We're happy to help clarify what may be covered before your appointment.
The best first step is to schedule a free 30-minute consultation with Dr. Smith or Dr. Miller. This allows us to understand your concerns and determine which services would be most appropriate for you or your child. You can request a consultation online through our website or call our office during regular business hours. We respond promptly and aim to make the process as straightforward as possible.
Our primary location is in Phoenix at 7776 Pointe Pkwy W, Suite 250 — conveniently located near the Arizona Grand Resort, just west of the I-10 at Baseline Road. We also have a Tucson location at 1 South Church Ave, Suite 1200 in downtown Tucson. Both offices are designed to be comfortable and welcoming, with spacious waiting areas, a kitchenette, and complimentary WiFi.
In-person advocacy means one of our clinicians accompanies you or your child to school meetings, IEP conferences, or other professional settings to help you understand your rights and communicate your needs effectively. It's particularly valuable for parents navigating the special education system for the first time, or for families who feel they need professional support to ensure their child receives appropriate services and accommodations.
Our parent support services are individualized and address each family's specific situation. We help parents understand their child's evaluation results, develop strategies for supporting their child at home and school, navigate educational and clinical systems, and connect with appropriate community resources. Support can be brief and focused or ongoing depending on your family's needs.
Evaluations typically last between 1 and 4 hours depending on the scope of assessment. Our offices are designed to be calm and comfortable — we have spacious waiting areas with seating, a kitchenette, and WiFi for parents or siblings who are waiting. After the evaluation, our team compiles a detailed written report and reviews the findings with you in a feedback session, walking through the results and any recommendations.
